How to protect your information following a security incident

It’s been widely reported in the news that credit monitoring company, Equifax, experienced a security incident that exposed the personal information of millions of consumers. For information about whether the Equifax security incident affected you as an individual, please reference the Equifax Impact Tool.

We encourage all consumers to remain vigilant in protecting their personal information.

If you are concerned for any reason, the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) recommends that you take these steps to help protect your information, including:

  • Placing a security freeze on credit reports
  • Placing a fraud alert on credit reports
  • Checking your credit report annually
  • Leveraging opt-in bank and Intuit safeguards
  • Being aware of phishing and social engineering scams
  • Protecting personal and financial information

For detailed information on how to take these actions, please visit the FS-ISAC website
