Additional Intuit Service-Specific Privacy Information

If you are a user of any of these Services, please see the relevant section to find out more about how we may collect, use or share your information, Including Personal Information, for the specific Service(s) we offer.

 

1. Quicken. Effective March 31, 2016, Quicken has been acquired by H.I.G. Capital and is no longer a part of Intuit. In order to fully respect your privacy preferences, for a limited time any opt out request you make regarding Quicken will apply to both Intuit and Quicken. 2. QuickBase. Effective April 1, 2016. QuickBase has been acquired by Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe ("WCAS") and is no longer a part of Intuit. Please see the WCAS QuickBase Privacy Statement here.

 

3. TurboTax (For US and Canada Customers, excluding Freedom Edition Customers). We offer tax preparation software to make the preparation and filing of taxes accurate and easy. In addition to what’s described in our Privacy Statement, the following is more detail about how we collect, share, and protect, the information, including Personal Information, you provide to us when we use TurboTax branded Services.

a) Information Collection: The types of information, including Personal Information, we collect will depend on the type of TurboTax Service you use (e.g. Federal Free, Home and Business, etc.). The information we collect may include:

  • Identification and contact info (e.g. name, Social Security Number/Social Insurance Number, driver’s license number, phone and address);
  • Income and wage information;
  • Investment information; and
  • Other financial information needed to complete your tax return.

We may also obtain information about you from third parties, such as credit bureaus and identity and device identification services, and compare information for accuracy and verify it with third parties.

b) Information Sharing: In the section below, we list the reasons why we may share your information, including Personal Information, and whether you can limit the sharing.

  • For our everyday business purposes – such as to process your transactions, maintain your account(s), respond to court orders and legal investigations, or report to the IRS or state revenue agencies. We will use and share your Personal Information for our everyday business purposes. For example, as part of the electronic filing process, the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") requires us to request the email address of the person electronically filing a tax return and provide it to the IRS. In addition, we will also share certain technical information, such as your IP address, device ID number, date, time of transmittal) with the IRS. We share this information to help detect and combat fraud. At the completion of each tax year (generally October 15), we will store your completed tax returns in PDF file format. We are required to retain the copies of the prepared returns for four (4) years. You may not opt-out of this type of sharing.
  • For our marketing purposes – to offer our products and services to you. We may share your information with our vendors to offer you TurboTax products and services. To opt-out of marketing from us, go to our Marketing Preference Center: https://privacy.intuit.com/cpi/do/signin.
  • For joint marketing with other partners and financial companies. From time to time we may partner with partners and other financial institutions to create or offer a product. We will not share your information, unless you have told us it is okay. If you choose to share your information with another partner or financial company, please note that these companies have their own privacy policies.
  • For our affiliates and subsidiaries everyday business purposes – information about your creditworthiness. We do not share your information for this purpose unless you have told us it is okay.
  • For our affiliates to market to you. We do not share your information with our affiliates or subsidiaries so they can directly market their services to you unless you have told us it is okay. To opt-out of marketing from us, go to: https://privacy.intuit.com/cpi/do/signin.
  • For non-affiliates to market to you. We do not share your information to third parties for them to directly market to you their products and services unless you have told us that it is okay. If you choose to share your information with another party, please note that these companies have their own privacy policies.
  • Limiting Data Sharing. Federal laws give you the right to limit data sharing for: our affiliates’ everyday business purposes where we provide information about your creditworthiness; affiliates and non-affiliates from using your information to market to you. State law and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing. See below section entitled “Additional Important Information.”

c) ItsDeductible [http://www.itsdeductible.com]. This Service allows you to track your charitable donations during the year and later you may choose to import them into TurboTax.

d) Tax Planners [http://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/]. Data entered into the Tax Planner and Tax Tools sections (e.g., Life Events Planner) of TurboTax.com is used solely to provide you with "what if" tax estimates. This data is not stored.

e) TurboTax Easy Extension [http://extension.intuit.com] is a tool that allows you to file electronically a tax deadline extension form with the IRS. Data on the form is retained for the required period. View Product Site at http://www.turbotax.com.

f) TurboTax Business Extension This Service helps you e-file a business tax extension for Corporations, Partnerships, Estates and Trusts. It’s available on the Apple app store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/turbotax-business- extensions/id982028366?mt=8)

g) MyTaxRefund This Service helps you track the status of your e- filed return, even if you did not e-file with TurboTax. Available on the Apple Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mytaxrefund- track-your-refund/id365180396?mt=8) or Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intuit.mobile. mytaxrefund&hl=en) app stores.

h) TurboTax Desktop Software. The following information applies to desktop software that you download via the Internet or purchase on a CD-ROM and load onto your own computer.

  • Synchronizing Your Service. Some of our web-enabled Services synchronize with the data on your computer to help keep the data accurate and provide additional online services. In some cases, you can manage the frequency of these updates. If you no longer want to synchronize data, you can cancel the service through the administration pages of the product or service.
  • Automatic Software Product Update. We work to continually improve our products, including our desktop software. From time to time, we make updates available for customers to download. An update might include a time saving new feature, critical security updates, or bug fixes to the software. For users of Windows-based computers, upon installing your software, a Windows Service will be installed named the "Intuit Update Service." This service will run on your system in the background regardless of whether your software is currently running. If you select the "automatically download" option for updates the Intuit Update Service will periodically check Intuit's servers via the Internet for updates. If an update is available, it will be automatically downloaded and you will be prompted to install that update the next time you start your software. If you select the "ask me first" option for updates, the Intuit Update Service will run in the background, but will not check Intuit's servers for updates until you confirm that you want it to check. Whether "automatically download" and "ask me first" is selected, Usage Data about your computer system and the update process will be sent to Intuit. Intuit will use this data to improve the updating process and the TurboTax product for our customers.
  • Data Collection. When you access a web-enabled service (such as Help) from within our desktop products we will note the link you clicked on and we also collect data about your transactions, product, system or other technical data that will help us direct you to the appropriate information or service.
  • Additional Important Information. Users with VT Mailing Address: We will not share your creditworthiness with our affiliates, except as permitted or required by applicable law. Users with CA Mailing Address: We will not share information we collect about you with non-affiliates, unless the law allows. Users with NV Mailing Addresses: We are providing you this notice pursuant to Nevada law. 4. TurboTax (For Freedom Edition Customers). We offer free tax preparation software to make the preparation and filing of taxes affordable and easy. Data that you provide to us as part of the IRS Free File Program (“Freedom Edition Tax Data”) will only be used for the preparation and filing of your taxes unless you provide us with consent to transfer, use or share your data for other purposes.  

Our Privacy Statement states (in Section 2 (b) “How We Use Your Information”) that we will use your information for certain marketing purposes unless prohibited by law, regulation, or a contractual agreement. In addition, Intuit’s Data Stewardship Principles provide that we will not sell, publish or share identifiable data with outside third parties without your explicit consent. 

In the case of our Turbo Tax Freedom Edition, we further limit how we use your information as required by the IRS Free File program.  Specifically, unless you have explicitly requested that we do so, we will not:

  • Use Your Freedom Edition Tax Data for TurboTax Marketing Purposes – We will not use Freedom Edition Tax Data to market other TurboTax products and services to users of the Free File Edition.
  • Share or Use Your Freedom Edition Data with Other Partners and Financial Companies for Joint Marketing Purposes. We will not share your personal information with third parties nor market joint products and services to users of the Freedom Edition.
  • Share your Freedom Edition Tax Data with Our Partners, Affiliates or Subsidiaries. We do not share your information for non-marketing purposes with our partners, affiliates or subsidiaries unless you have explicitly requested that we do so.
  • Share Your Freedom Edition Tax Data with Our Affiliates or Subsidiaries to Market to You Other Intuit Products and Services. We do not share your information with our affiliates or subsidiaries, so they can directly market their services to you. 
  • Share Your Free File Tax Data with Outside Parties so They Can Market to You. We do not share your information to third parties for them to directly market to you their products and services.

 

5. Intuit Turbo (United States). Turbo is a personal financial management service intended to help you save money and improve your financial life. In addition to what’s described in our Privacy Statement, the following is more detail about how we collect, share, and protect the information, including Personal Information, you provide to us.

a) Information Collection. The types of personal information we collect may include:

  • (e.g. name, phone and address);
  • Credit score and credit report;
  • Registration information;
  • Financial information (e.g., tax information, loan information);
  • Information from other Intuit products; and
  • Third party information and content (e.g. such as your bank and other financial account information).

We may obtain and share information about you with third parties, such as credit bureaus and identity and device identification services, compare this information for accuracy and verify it with third parties.

b) Use of Information.  We may use your information in the following ways:

  • Create and enhance your personalized financial profile;
  • Provide you with targeted advertisements, offers, or information about financial products or services that may be of interest to you;
  • Provide information that does not personally identify you to our third party partners to connect you with targeted offers for financial products or services;
  • Obtain your credit score or credit report on your behalf;
  • Provide you with financial advice, tips, recommendations and education;
  • Use your information in aggregate and de-identified form to benchmark your financial profile against other Intuit customers;
  • Make your information and personalized offers for financial products and services available to you in other Intuit products that you may use;

c)  Information Sharing. We need to use and share your information to run our everyday business. In the section below, we list the reasons why we may share your Personal Information, and whether you can limit the sharing.

  • For our everyday business purposes – such as to process your bill transactions, maintain your account(s), respond to court orders and legal investigations, perform creditworthiness and solvency checks, combat fraud, or report to credit bureaus. 6. Mint.com, Mint mobile app, and Mint Bills (For US Customers). Mint is a personal financial management service. In addition to what’s described in our Privacy Statement, the following is more detail about how we collect, share, and protect, the information, including Personal Information, you provide to us.

a) Information Collection. The types of personal information we collect and how we will collect your information will depend on the Mint products and services you use (e.g. Mint Bills, the mobile app.). The information we collect may include:

  • Identification info (e.g. name, phone and address);
  • Credit score and credit history;
  • Account balance and payment/transaction history;
  • Registration information;
  • Bill and payment information; and
  • Third party information and content (e.g. such as your bank and other financial account information when you sync your bank and other accounts into your Mint account).

We may obtain and share information about you from third parties, such as credit bureaus and identity and device identification services and compare this information for accuracy and verify it with third parties.

7. Tax Professional Products—ProConnect and ProFile. ProConnect is Intuit’s portfolio of desktop and online professional tax products and services in the United States, including Lacerte, ProSeries, ProConnect Tax Online and the ProConnect client benefit and client connection suites of services. ProFile is Intuit’s professional tax product in Canada. In addition to what’s described in our Privacy Statement, the following is more detail about how we collect, share, and use information, including Personal Information, when you use Intuit’s ProConnect or ProFile products or services.

a) Information Collection. Depending upon the product or service used, we may collect information, including Personal Information, from tax professionals as well as from clients of tax professionals.

If you are a tax professional: We collect information, including Personal Information, about you that you provide to us.

We collect information, including Personal Information, about your clients that you provide. We may use this information for purposes such as facilitating the preparation and filing of your clients’ tax returns and helping you manage your tax business. Depending on the product or service you use, we may also collect information about your clients that may be provided to us directly by your clients, financial institutions, governmental agencies or other third parties (e.g., document storage solutions). The information we collect may include, e.g.:

  • Identification and contact info (e.g. name, Social Security Number/Social Insurance Number, phone, address, email address);
  • Income and wage information;
  • Investment information;
  • Payment information;
  • Electronic signatures; and
  • Other financial information needed to prepare, complete or file a tax return.

In certain cases, depending on how you use our products and services, we may collect information, including Personal Information, from you or from other tax professionals within your firm about your firm or about other tax professionals with whom you work.

We also may collect information, including Personal Information, you import into our tax professional products from other ProConnect or ProFile products or services or other Intuit products, such as our QuickBooks products.

We may use the information we collect for purposes such as setting up and administering your user account and/or your firm’s account and providing you with the ProConnect or ProFile products and services.

If you are a client of a tax professional: We collect information, including Personal Information, about you when you use one of our ProConnect or ProFile services. We may use this information for purposes such as providing you with the ProConnect or ProFile service, or providing information to or communicating with your tax professional. We may collect information from you directly or from your financial institution or a governmental entity. The information we collect may include, e.g.:

  • Identification and contact info (e.g. name, Social Security Number/Social Insurance Number, phone, address, email address);
  • Income and wage information;
  • Investment information;
  • Payment information;
  • Electronic signatures; and
  • Other financial information needed to prepare, complete or file a tax return.

b) Information Sharing. We may share the information we collect through our ProConnect and ProFile products and services for the following reasons:

  • For our everyday business purposes. We may share information about tax professionals and clients to process transactions, maintain account(s), respond to court orders and legal investigations, or report to the IRS or state revenue agencies. As part of the electronic filing process, the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") requires us to request the email address of the person electronically filing a tax return and provide it to the IRS. In addition, we will also share certain technical information, such as your IP address, device ID number, date, time of transmittal) with the IRS.   • To enable communication between tax professionals and clients. Depending on the ProConnect or ProFile products and services used, we may share information to enable tax professionals and clients to communicate and exchange tax documents, such for a tax professional to invite a client to sign up for Intuit Link or to obtain a client’s electronic signature.
  • To collect payment from clients on behalf of tax professionals. Depending on the ProConnect or ProFile products or services used and as directed by a tax professional or a client of a tax professional, we may share information with third party financial institutions to facilitate a client’s payment for their tax professional’s tax preparation services.

 

8. QuickBooks. QuickBooks is accounting software built for small businesses, self-employed independent contractors and freelancers, and accountants. In addition to what’s described in our Privacy Statement, following is more detail about how we collect, share, and protect the information, including Personal Information, you provide to us:

QuickBooks features are continually updated and expanded, and the information we collect, and how we collect that information, will depend on the QuickBooks software type (e.g. online, desktop, mobile) and the features you choose to use. For example, you may choose to extend QuickBooks accounting functionality to enable you to run payroll (QuickBooks Payroll), create invoices, accept and process payments (QuickBooks Payments), or apply and get approved for small business financing (QuickBooks Financing). When you use QuickBooks Self Employed, you can automatically track mileage, expenses and other information to assist you in planning for tax obligations. We will use your QuickBooks information to send you critical notices, such as when invoices are overdue, and to offer business financing options. With your authorization, we will enable you to share your QuickBooks information with other employees within your business, your accountant, lenders, and third party developers.

a) Payment Processing. When we process payments on your behalf, we will monitor your account, review your transaction information, your interaction with other Intuit services, and other QuickBooks information to help detect and prevent potentially illegal activity, fraud, and violations of our and the card association rules and policies (e.g. Amex, Visa, MC, Discover). We may also use this same information for account authentication purposes. We may also share your information, including Personal Information, with credit bureaus, collection agencies, service providers, and our banking partners to report account information, resolve disputes, mange fraud and risk, and comply with credit card association rules for inclusion on list of terminated merchants. Your customers' payment information, including account or credit card numbers, financial institutions, expiration dates, transaction amounts and service codes, may be stored and retained to provide the product and service that you have requested. We may also use information and content from your customer invoices to enable Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 reporting in accordance with card association rules. We may also obtain information about you from third parties, such as credit bureaus and identity and device identification services, to perform creditworthiness and solvency checks on you or your business, and compare information for accuracy and verify it with third parties.

b) Business Financing. From time to time, we may offer you short and long term financing solutions for your business. These offers may be for solutions offered by us or in partnership with a financial institution or lender. To make these offers, we review your QuickBooks information. In addition to make the process of applying for a funding, we will use information we already know about to you make the loan approval process fast and easy. Provided you have told us that it is okay to share your QuickBooks information, we will share and verify the information we already have about you from your QuickBooks account with our partners. We will share and verify your business information, your business financial information (e.g. bank balance, business cash flow), other financial information pertaining to your business, verify your vendors, and share and verify any public information about your business (e.g. business profile information, business reviews, etc).

c) Payroll Processing, View My Paycheck, and 1099 and W2 Information. We will share with your employees and independent contractors their payroll, W2 and 1099 information. Once you activate the ViewMyPaycheck services, you will be required to send an invitation email to those individuals to whom you plan to provide access. Additionally, we will make your employees’ and independent contractors’ W2 and 1099 tax forms available to them through TurboTax, provided they choose to file their taxes with us using our TurboTax services. You may opt-out of making your employees’ and independent contractors’ W2s and 1099 available to TurboTax.

d) QuickBooks Apps Center. The Intuit QuickBooks Apps Center is an online marketplace where you can integrate applications developed by other companies with our Services. When a third party develops the application, the third party will be identified and the third party's privacy policy will apply to how they handle the information you provide to them. 9. Intuit Workforce. Intuit Workforce is an online solution for businesses to manage their potential and current workers, and for potential and current workers to interact with businesses, each through an online account. 10. Mobile (e.g. Phone, Tablet and Watch) Apps. Some of our Services available through mobile applications may be location-enabled. In addition to what’s described in our Privacy Statement, following is more detail about how we collect, share, and protect the information, including Personal Information, you provide to us when using of our mobile applications:

If you use location-enabled Services, we will be collecting location information and other technical information from your devices. We only collect this data with your consent. Depending on the Service you use, we may also collect other information about your mobile phone, such as the type of your phone, your carrier, and other data such as software version so that we can improve our Services. By necessity, your requests/messages from your mobile devices may go through your/our mobile carrier's network. This means that your carrier may have access to your requests and messages, and our/your carrier's privacy policies apply.
